Teeth fillings

Teeth fillings, also known as dental fillings, are dental procedure in which a dentist fills a cavity or hole in a tooth with a material to restore its function and prevent further decay.

Here are some key components of teeth fillings:

  1. Diagnosis: Your dentist will first examine your teeth and take X-rays to determine if a filling is necessary. Common signs that may indicate the need for a filling include tooth sensitivity, pain when biting or chewing, or visible discoloration or holes in the tooth.

  2. Anesthesia: Before the procedure begins, your dentist will administer local anesthesia to numb the area around the affected tooth.

  3. Removal of decay: Your dentist will then use a dental drill or other tool to remove the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth and create a clean, smooth surface for the filling.

  4. Filling placement: Your dentist will then place the filling material into the cavity or hole and shape it to match the natural contour of the tooth. Common filling materials include composite resin, amalgam, gold, and ceramic.

  5. Polishing: Once the filling is placed, your dentist will polish it to ensure a smooth, natural appearance and comfortable fit with your other teeth.

Teeth fillings are a common and relatively simple procedure that can be completed in just one appointment. They are an effective way to treat cavities and prevent further decay or damage to the affected tooth. If you are experiencing any symptoms that may indicate the need for a filling, contact your dentist to schedule an examination and discuss your treatment options.
